So, you need a job or want a different one.
Perhaps, you want one at a higher level, a lower level to reduce stress, or in a different field.
You may have been sending out hundreds of resumes with no response. You feel discouraged and confused.
Why isn’t this working? What are you doing wrong?
I can help you step back and turn a job search into a job find. What does that mean?
Job searches require a strategy.
It begins by revisiting your job targets and making sure that you are applying for positions for which you can be competitive.
It means needing to have the ability to quickly answer the question: “Why should I hire you?” This requires your being able to think of yourself as a brand and to articulate your unique/special qualities, skills and experience to a potential hiring manager, or in other words, your value proposition.
It means quickly being able to provide examples or stories that support whatever you say about yourself.
Marketing yourself is part of the strategy.
Many people find it challenging to express their value, because they find it difficult to view themselves objectively. They may take their strengths for granted and consider them to be “nothing special; just doing my job.”
Alternatively, they may not have the confidence to figure out their strengths at all.
Coaching helps formulate a strategy.
By taking a close look together at your work history and other experiences, coaching from me helps you pinpoint what you have to offer to your new hiring manager.
Together, we will construct the components of your brand and value proposition so that you can successfully present yourself well in the marketplace.
Once that is complete, we will look at your marketing strategy – where, how, and to whom – you will sell your capabilities for your next role.
Developing a search infrastructure is an integral component.
You will need to have certain documents ready before launching your successful job search. These include: a powerful resume to market yourself and a corresponding and compelling LinkedIn profile.
You also need solid references who will support your candidacy and the ability to write effective cover letters.
I can assist you in creating the “foundational” materials you need to move forward. While I am not a professional résumé preparation service, I can provide you with coaching and editing support as you create the documents you need.
Alternatively, I can refer you to an external résumé writer to do the work for you.
Develop job search skills.
As you begin to reach out to the marketplace, I can offer ideas on where to look for suitable jobs, including specialized job boards, and how to figure out your compensation ask.
You will learn how to network to uncover relevant opportunities. Particularly if you are introverted, I will help you get more comfortable and effective reaching out to people you don’t know.
Managing emotions is part of the strategy.
While you conduct your job search, we also can discuss how to stay organized and productive, as you navigate the emotional roller coaster, including the excitement of possibilities and the disappointment of rejection, that most people experience along the way.
We can discuss how to manage your anxiety and how to respond to the innocent questions of family and friends that may drive you crazy.
When the time comes, I can help you refine your ability to interview with impact, including what to ask to figure out if a company is right for you.
And finally, we can review how to negotiate a favorable compensation/benefits package when you get an offer.
Working to meet your needs with flexibility…
My approach to doing this work involves customizing services to meet your needs. As a result, I do not sell “packages” that you are required to pay for in advance.
Instead, together, we discuss what you need and design what will work for you based on your skills, prior job search experience, and budget.
We can revisit and revise the plan at any point along the way.
Similarly, once you are actively engaged in your job search… we can shift to regularly scheduled check-ins… of 30-60 minutes, weekly, biweekly or even monthly… to reinforce your commitment to staying “on track.”
